> I am a fan of Ativan, but a bigger fan of Klonopin. Ativan is very short-acting (about 4 hours) and can cause "rebound anxiety" because when it starts to wear off, it does so very rapidly. Klonopin is also a benzo, but lasts about 12 hours and wears off very gradually so you don't have the possible "roller coaster ride effect" of Ativan. Bear in mind, my comments only apply if you are taking the benzo on a regular basis to treat ot prevent chronic anxiety. If you are just going to pop a pill when you feel stressed, then Ativan might be better because it kicks in faster.
-------------------------------------I use klonopin maintainence at 1mg and ativan 2 - 4mg depending on the situation with my GAD/SD. The klon practically negates any fluctuation in my ativan dose. This is used by my doc in the case of many of his anxiety patients and is growing in poularity with the psychiatric community he tells me.
I've tried both seperately and the ativan would be fine as long as I dosed on time, but adding the klon and using the two in conjunction is what worked by far the best for me.
