In reply to Breakthrough Drug-Regulates neurotransmtr levels, posted by Temoigneur on September 20, 2002, at 17:55:26
I read an article once, I think from the FDA Reporter, that said what it would be like to go to a doctor in 2015... DNA testing would be cheaper by then, and drugs will act like keys that will bind to receptors that require adjustment...
At this time, DNA testing remains pricey. It is basically cost-prohibitive for insurance companies. On the plus side for cows, it's suppose to be cheap enough in a few years (a few hundred per test) so that it may replace cow branding...
Basically, this pipeline drug probably relies on DNA testing, so it's not something that's going to be available to many even when it comes out, whenever that is, until DNA testing cheapens.
> Hi I was reading about a drug in the pipeline for schizophrenia which somehow is able to individually regulate levels of various neuro-transmitters, based on the patients bio-chemistry - doing so in a "tailor suited" fashion for each patient. I read that people in trials were doing extremely well on it. If anyone has any information on this, and, or knows about any sites which discuss the drug, I love to hear about it.
