I had the same reaction to the effexor and I know that it is from the effexor. I have never had such pain before. It is a pressure and heaviness behind the eyes. I had this the first 3 days on effexor and now after 2 weeks on effexor I relatively side effect free. I don't however feel completely relieved of my depression and most certainly not my anxiety.Don't ever let any doctor tell you it is in your head or just dismiss you. Maybe you should get a 2nd opinion or maybe just a new doctor.
