Teaching teachers about our child's depression

Posted by taliesin02 on November 11, 2002, at 22:55:56

Our 8 year old son has been diagnosed and labelled ADHD, anxiety disordered, depressive and gifted by countless professionals during the past two years. He is now on Melatonin to help major sleep problems and Wellbutrin for the remainder.
Whilst his school have bent over backwards to be supportive and flexible (within the constricts of the public school system) there is still a most distressing lack of fundamental understanding about the difference between "behavioral problems" (ie: "oh dear, third graders do NOT cry, we can't have that!") and the spontaneous physical manifestations of the inner emotional frustrations which we are still struggling to deal with each day.
My question is, to what extent may we expect the Wellbutrin to eventually help to alleviate these problems (he has only been on the Wellbutrin for three weeks and we are still taking only 1/4 of a 100mg tablet per day, moving to 100mg a day by the end of November, hopefully)? Also, can anyone recommend a diplomatic yet informative source of information I could pass on to the doubtless-overburdened teachers? I would SO appreciate any help or advice- Many thanks.
