I don't remember the incident but your apology says a lot good about you. It's pretty hard for people with no mental health problems to understand that when something like this happens, it's not the "real" person speaking in anger or hate but something that takes over our mind & personality.
I remember reading about a man (a century or so ago) who after a horrible accident that affected his brain, had a permanent personality change. Before, he was clean, friendly, good-natured & well-liked. Afterwards, he swore (when swearing wasn't the norm), was lazy, dirty, & considered an over-all unlikable guy. I felt awful when I read that. To be changed permanently into someone you really aren't...
