In reply to Insomnia? Try low dose Remeron!, posted by Guy on January 4, 2003, at 11:46:10
Remeron can indeed be a great sleep med. I took half a tab a night for over a year.
For me, Remeron was great for initiating sleep. It would knock me out reliably in about 30 minutes. But the quality of my sleep never seemed very good. I mean, I slept sound, but didn't feel like I had. It was just my guess, but I figured it was the norepinephrine boosting effect of Remeron that lowered my sleep quality.
Today I take Zyprexa instead. I am much happier with Zyprexa than Remeron. Remeron made me feel too "fuzzy", while Zyprexa feels more "open". Remeron always had that early morning hangover feeling. But not with Zyprexa. Zyprexa does not knock me out like Remeron did, but once I am asleep I stay asleep and when I wake I feel like I had good sleep.
For sleep meds and all around psychiatric meds, I strongly favor Zyprexa. It's just my personal opinion, but I must admit there are a whole lot more doctors and patients finding success stories with Zyprexa than Remeron.
