I'm not ADD, but I actually find that methylphenidate is actually calming as well as mood elevating. However the t.i.d. schedule is a bit roller-coastery. My psychiatrist and I are considering one of the controlled release formulations of methylphenidate (Concerta, Ritalin SR, Metadate ER, Metadate CD).

I'm, in general, a hyper-metabolizer (I usually need larger than average doses of most psychopharmaceuticals), and would prefer trying the longest acting drug. Any experiences with other long-lasting stimulants would also be greatly appreciated.

> BrittBritt, I tried Ritalin-LA that comes in 20/30/40 mg strengths. It is divided into two immediate release activities. I was given the 20mg capsules. 10mg would be released straight away and then four hours later an additional 10mg would be released straight away. It still wasn't a real once a day med however. It was probably designed for kids who take it once in the morning the minute before they hop on the bus to go to school, and don't have any major troubles after they get home (needing a stim at that time). If methylphenidate is the stim that works the best for you, I would try Concerta.----Mitch
