This is not a "stupid question" at all. For zoloft, you are probably safe, as long as it has been stored in a cool, dry place, as Phil said. However, for some other drugs, like antibiotics, that rule-of-thumb does NOT apply. Antibiotics do deteriorate and may cause severe illness. For example, ingestion of outdated tetracyclines (one of which is Doxycycline) can cause acquired Fanconi's Syndrome.
