Tapering off Xanax

Posted by Alara on January 23, 2003, at 3:30:22

I am hoping that some members on this board can give me some advice on the best method of tapering off Xanax.

Since starting on Cipramil (Celexa) about a month ago, I have made huge progress. My social anxiety is under control and I am doing well at work (although I am very stressed by a tremendous workload).

I am currently taking 0.5mg at night for sleep and understand that I shouldn't be relying upon it. (My doctor wants me to wean off it too.) What is the best approach to cutting down, bearing in mind my hectic work schedule? I currently work an average of 45hours a week in a chronically understaffed department and am under pressure to do singing exams. Still, I think I'll be OK once I establish some sort of equilibrium.

Is it unrealistic for me to cut down to 25mg a night on Friday and Saturday nights? Somebody suggested cutting down by only 10% a week in a previous thread. I've been taking Xanax for about 4 months.

Many thanks,

Alara
