In reply to Polypharmacy with Nardil -- please respond., posted by ace on February 10, 2003, at 21:12:42
Because of epilepsy, I have at one time or another combined Nardil with Tegretol, Topamax, Klonopin, Neurontin, Zonegran.
I have also at various periods used Trazodone, Inderal, and sonata along with Nardil
I have heard of combining MAOIs with Reboxetine with No ill effects, and adding MAOIs to a TCA.
Generally, the only meds that I have taken that are contraindicated with Nardil were Tegretol (because it has some re-uptake properties), Trazadone (serotonin re-uptake, increased risk of hypotension), and Inderal (increased risk of hypotension, AND paradoxical hypertension due to masked alpha receptor stimulation). I had NO problems with any additional medication added; although contraindicated, most docs will use these meds freely with MAOIs
I was lucky (I guess) that at the time, I was under the care of a very liberal Psychiatrist (who was head of Psych at the area hospital) and a Neurologist who was not only a MD but had a PHD in clincal psychology...both of whom actively communicated with eachother.
It is because of thier aggressive approach to "heal" me, that I am free of major depression and social phobia.
