Ace,
Many years ago I was prescribed Anafranil. I commenced on 100mg daily and finally was prescribed 250mg daily. I tried divided doses etc, but eventually found least problems taking it at bedtime. It did aid my anxiety level, but by making me feel sedated so that I felt as if my brain were fluffy cotton wool. Not only did I cease to feel anxious, but life around me had a problem penetrating the sedated shell. I felt like a zombie. Unfortunately it didn't help my mood level much. Hence, all these years later, I have finally joined the nardil fan club. Although still have room for improvement.
I was taking a larger dose, but was scared by how I felt. Not sure if I took fright at feeling "happy" after all these years, or if I was a little elated. Close friends reported seeing nil other than an apparently happy me. So now I'm trying to pluck up the courage to try that next dose again.
I do know that anafranil has been of assistance to some people, but in my experience, they appear to be those with reactive type depression secondary to severe anxiety, and not severe depression accompanied by anxiety.
Maybe someone else on the board will have had a different experience.
Good luck, and take care.
Eilidh.
