> Ritch- I spoke to the doctor on Monday and told him how much less agitated he was. He told me to keep the dose at 1500 mg/day for a little while, which I did. He Also mentioned something about cutting down to 1200 mg. Ben was better on 1500 mg., but still seemed a little manic to me....self-talking at times. Since it is the weekend, I decided yesterday to cut back to 1200 and see if it was/is any better. I don't know yet..... I guess I know that 1500 mg. wasn't the "perfect" place for him...and it seemed that 2400 mg. made him sooooo agitated, so it only made sense to me to cut back....but I really don't know WHAT I am going to do if he gets MORE hyper on 1200. Maybe trileptal just isn't the right med for him? Or do I try and increase it SLOWLY back up? If that happens I will call the doctor again on Monday or Tuesday. What do you think??????
> eliseThe doc probably wanted to keep him at 1500mg for awhile to make sure the effects of the dosage drop from 2400mg aren't confused with some mild withdrawal syndrome (that might settle down with a little time). When I was taking Trileptal it made me feel a little anxious and "buzzy" and activated similar to what Judy said. The good part is that it really helped my depression. Too bad I couldn't handle the nausea. I would follow your doctor's advice closely on the dosage, just be assertive about any suspicions you have about the medication or the dosage.
