I'm 46
My dx is mostly anxiety combinations and variants of SP, GAD, D/R, and depression.
I've had problems with sedation while on Nardil. I have had a good response to Ritalin prior to Nardil therapy. Shortly after starting Nardil I told my Pdoc that I really missed taking Ritalin. He said he new of a Dr. in Chicago that adds Ritalin to Nardil to counteract afternoon sedation caused by Nardil. He contacted this Dr. and found out the procedure for safely adding Ritalin.
I do feel significantly more energetic with the addition of Ritalin. Also improvement in cognition, attention, memory. This ability to concentrate better seems to help me focus on things that help alleviate anxiety: Reading, socailizing, working etc. For me, Ritalin alone seemed to have somewhat of a mild calmative effect even though it is stimulating. I can still sleep after taking it.
The Ritalin wears off rapidly which just happens to be around my bedtime giving me a big boost in sedation and helps me sleep.
The advantage of Ritalin over a benzo is that I don't feel the euphoric, slightly intoxicated feeling that benzo's sometimes gave me.
When I was on Klonopin and Nardil I fell asleep at the wheel twice. The first time hitting a tree in my driveway! Falling asleep while eating was a big problem. One time while eating dinner my face actually fell into my plate while eating with my family. It turned out to be quite a laugh.
