Do not screw with your Parnate dose. Cutting the pills, alternating days, all very dicey with this drug. This is a subject for your pdoc to discuss with you. Parnate is a wonderfull but very potent drug and should be respected. I've taken it.
I've also taken almost all the benzos, and each is very different. There is no shame in taking benzos if you need them- The hysteria about dependence has more to do with a slow news days than the realities of chronic illness. You don't hear any moaning and wailing about diabetics being addicted to insulin, do you? Even though insulin has really bizarre and dangerous black market uses. We need benzos the same way diabetics need insulin, and Klonopin is much easier and safer than antipsychotics or going off the deep end.
Klonopin and Xanax are so wildly different that even though a dose comparison could be made, it's essentially useless. Xanax is short acting and very immediately powerfull, Klonopin has a half life of around thirty six hours if I remember correctly. The two total opposite ends of the benzo spectrum. There's a lot of drugs in between, and a different molecule may be better for you. Ask your doc.
The sleep thing does improve over time- I had to use Ambien for months but it helped. Benedryl is cheap, relatively harmless, and really helped me during a bad sleepless spell. Giving up caffeine helped too.
Hope this helped.missliz
