generic drugs for ADD

Posted by toodlebug on July 1, 2003, at 18:49:50

I am thinking of taking Adderall for ADD (in addition to Wellbutrin). (I used to take it but quit when I started the Wellbutrin.) However, when this prescription runs out I would like to try a generic drug. Adderall costs $42/month, and so do Wellbutrin (lousy insurance!) and Ambien (which I take only once in a while). I also take a few other meds regularly so I sometimes end up spending nearly $200/month on meds! My doctor is willing to fudge on the prescriptions and write a prescription for double the amount I normally take so I can get two months' supply for $42. I am interested in cutting down on the bill further by trying something generic (that would cost $12/month) for ADD. I have read that generic Ritalin is not good, but how about the various forms of Dexedrine? Are some generics better than others? Thanks!
