I find a very low dose of Adderall (which I take for ADD, along with Strattera now) has an AD effect. My pdoc says that pstims can be very effective ADs, but he has to be careful in prescribing them for that purpose alone, for bureaucratic reasons, so generally avoids it in the absence of a diagnosis of ADD. He told me that for severely depressed patients, he'll occasionally use Ritalin or amphetamines briefly to "jump start" things while waiting for an AD to kick in, but really has to be prepared to justify it if the FDA or whoever asks.
