If ssris make you panicky, then start them in combination with something else like Buspar or Klonopin which will bring down the anxiety. When I tried to take Z alone, I had a pounding, fast heart rate and felt jittery. So the pdoc put me on combo therapy because I found so many positive effects from the Zoloft (aside from the unpleasant heart pound). If it is worth it to you to get the antidepressant effects from an ssri but you cannot tolerate them, then Buspar or a benzo as an augmentor is your best bet.
