In reply to Lamictal Topamax together??????PLS HELP, posted by galkeepinon on July 22, 2003, at 22:57:28
I'm sorry you feel so bad right now. No offence but your doctor sounds like a quack! If you got a rash from Topamax why would he add lamictal to the mix - lamictal can cause serious rashes for some people. I mean if he is going to do his little experiment he could have at least tried something other than lamictal. Some people do use it for depression so maybe that is what he was thinking. Hell, even I'm confused at this point!
If got a rash from a medication I would stop it and never take it again! If the doctor insisted then I would tell him to take it and see if he gets a rash and how much he enjoys it!!!!
Is there a reason why he is being so persistent with the topomax?
I know you are feeling really depressed right which makes it very hard to have your voice heard by any doctor. But you do have the right to question why something is being prescribed and the right to choose not to take it. Is there someone who can go with you to your next appointment? It's hard to be your own advocate, so bringing someone along can really help.
Hang in there.

> Hi, I'm really desperate tonight. I have been crying for 2 days straight, saw my doc today. I read a post over at PsychoSocialBabble by Penny which helped a lot, and a few of the replies were very helpful. I'm really having a hard time. My doc wants to augment Lamictal with my current Topamax. I recently had to cut my Topamax because of the itchy rash I got. But today he said slowly increase the Topamax again, add the Lamictal and see if the rash gets worse-then we'll know if it's the Topamax that's giving you the rash. So there I sit today trying to tell him I need an AD (I believe) because I've got tears rolling down my face. All he suggested is Lamictal.
> Is anyone on this combo? Has it helped? I'm bipolar but have been diagnosed with major depression in the past and sure feel majorly depressed I have absolutely NO mania.
