kashley: someone posted a link the other day which led to some info about a similar drug, zonegran. if you follow this link (below) and then scroll down, you'll see some studies to click on that indicate that zonegran helps promote weight loss by some mechanism other than simply reducing the patients' appetite and causing them to restrict food intake. i just glanced at a couple of the articles -- i don't know if it raises the metabolic rate or operates in some other way to cause this effect (researchers may not even fully understand this). topamax should perform in a similar fashion as zonegran for weight loss -- not all mood-stabilizing anti-epilepsy drugs have this side effect, but these two seem to. here's the link:
