It's a good sign that the number of so-called "exposures" was so drastically reduced over the course of the nine-year period. But that might reflect the fact that much fewer people are taking MAOIs now than in 1990. I wouldn't be surprised, considering the commercial success of the SSRIs.

I take Parnate, and I once read that only about 1% of the prescriptions for ADs in the U.S. are for MAOIs. Your question is a very good one. I myself would like to know how many people take Parnate or Nardil and what the trends are. I would hate to see the day when these life-saver meds are discontinued. You should do the research. I wouldn't trust a word from the drug companies themselves. I would start with an organization like the American Psychiatric Assn. or a pharmacists' association, and take it from there. Please post your findings. A lot of us would love to know.
