In reply to luvox or lexapro for ocd?, posted by bobbiedobbs on August 3, 2003, at 0:09:26
I tried Luvox for minor symptoms of OCD and it helped minimally, however, I know someone with full-blown OCD who's on Luvox and has been for a number of years with success.
My guess would be that Luvox would be the one to try for OCD since it is *targeted* to the brain receptors involved in this and is weak as an anti-depressant (even though it's an SSRI).
I think a person has to go to a rather high dosage on the other SSRI's to get any effect on OCD.
However, being that both Luvox and Lexapro are SSRI's, unfortunately, sexual side effects will probably be there for both of these meds.
The other med you might consider is the *gold standard* for OCD - Anafranil - it is a tricyclic and has some pesky side effects but they WEAR OFF after a few weeks, and it does not have the sexual one.
