In reply to Parnate and Sedation?, posted by Budgie on August 12, 2003, at 19:02:42
> I started taking this med for atypical depression (and Social Anx.), so I'm really hoping for some real "activation." Has anyone started off with sedation (I've only been on it for 6 days and just upped the dose to 20mg yesterday) and then have it kick in? It seems like everyone else says they experience insomnia with it. Not true for me so far!

> Any ideas?Your anhedonia is more than likely a classic symptom of depression and will disappear once the Parnate kicks in, in a few weeks. Parnate increases levels of serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine, so it can work wonders. You started out on a low dose. I've always ramped up to 40 mg. for depression within the first week. For me it's a bit odd: at the beginning, I had some transient afternoon periods of fatigue or sedation but over the long term, Parnate can be very stimulating.
A dose of 20 mg. is probably not enough; standard guidelines say that 30 mg. is the usual dose. If you can increase to 30 or 40 mg. soon, you might experience insomnia and other side effects, but will msot probably get to see the end of your depression. Everone reacts differently to every med. Any other questions, please ask!
