Celexa and Alcohol

Posted by Today on August 16, 2003, at 22:35:56

Celexa has worked really well for me for the past two years. However, I have a tendency to drink most weekends. I mix the two regularly and haven't observed any adverse side effects. It seems that the Celexa enhances the effect of alcohol, in other words, I feel buzzed after just one or two drinks. I have asked several doctors if it is safe to do this. They have just told me not to do it..alcohol is a depressant and you are on an antidepressant. However, a really strange thing seems to happen when I drink. If I am feeling down (which is usally only once a week) I drink a couple of beers. After drinking, I seem to feel much better and I don't feel depressed afterward. Does anyone have any experiences concerning the two?
