Hello!
Well, it depends on what behaviour/feelings you are calling "shy" really. Social Phobia/Anxiety is kinda like "shy to the extreme". In general, I think, it's accepted that shyness/anxiousness is a personality type. To be classified as a disorder (and therefore helped by medication/therapy) it has to consistently interfere with your quality of life and ability to function in the real world. If you are disabled
by your shyness/anxiety, then you could say that you have a disorder. If you worry about going out in public or socializing. If you avoid doing things or putting yourself in certain situations, then the anxiety IS impacting your life. If that is the case, I would see a doctor..there are many types of medications that can help you or forms of therapy. BTW, it helps to write everything down about how you feel (physically and emotionally) about living your life in general, and in specific situations that you give you real grief, before you go to a doc. Most shy/anxious people, don't even like sharing that stuff with a doctor to begin with, and can sometimes feel intimidated. Make sure you tell ALL when you go, if you decide to do so. Best of luck!
