> I've been going through these phases in the past couple of weeks where I'll be feeling spectacular for several days, then wham! I feel terrible. I'm beginning to piece this all together and I think I've been having hypertensive reactions (though obviously not super severe).
I had a very up and down experience while on Parnate. I was also extremely agitated and irritable, but I suppose the drug just didn't agree with me. It was incredible while I was "high". This drug felt a lot like a drug of abuse. Not that there's necessarily anything wrong with that.
> 1.Does any know of a *comprehensive* list of foods, herbs, and spices that could possibly interact with MAOIs? The common lists don't have everything- after some digging on the web I noticed that ibuprofen and peanuts, both of which I pop mass quantities of, are contra-indicated. I know the lists have been shortened in recent times, but what kind of stuff was on the old lists?
Follow the list your pdoc gave you, and get a blood pressure monitor for peace of mind.
> 2. I read here that Thorazine can be used in a hypertensive emergency. That is an anti-psychotic, or am I wrong? Would that mean that Zyprexa could possibly help, too?
What did your pdoc prescribe for emergencies? Nifedipine is commonly prescribed for this purpose. You bite the capsule and stick it under your tongue during a hypertensive crisis. Always stay standing during a hypertensive crisis -- don't lay down. It does raise some concern, if your pdoc didn't prescribe a med to be used in the event of a hypertensive crisis. Does he or she have experience with MAOIs?
Hang in there,
