Check out the phenelzine references on biopsychiatry.com.For what it's worth, Nardil and its primary metabolite (phenylethylidenehydrazine) are both responsible for the increased GABA levels (via GABA(A)--alpha 3 beta 1 gamma 2 subunits-- receptors)
I, at times felt almost euphorically calm on Nardil...never on Parnate.. Parnate has no effect on GABA levels, although both are irreversible MAOIs (MAO-A and MAO-B) both meds elicit their theraputic response primarily through full inhibiton of MAO-A (so serotonin plays an integral role)... Parnate may differ in it's ability to stimulate catecholamine release.
