In reply to gonna quit Parnate cause of hairloss. How..., posted by eric24 on October 30, 2003, at 12:46:54
> I'm a 24 year old college student taking Parnate for SP. I've tried Zoloft (did nothing) and Paxil (helped some, but caused hairloss). I've been on Parnate for 2 months (first month 10mg/day, second month 20mg/day) and it has made me smile more easily, thats it.
>If it hasn't made you feel great I'd say get off it.
> Here is the problem... my front hairline is receeding a bit again. The strange thing is that the hairs right on my hairline are very short and thin, almost like the hair folicle slowly crapped out. My long-time barber noticed this and said something without my mentioning anything, so from that perspective, I'm not imagining this.

I have heard of Parnate causing this- I believe the technical word is alocopia- or something like that!
> I have enough Parnate left for 3 weeks at 10mg. My questions is, if I'm going to quit, do I need to really go back to see my psychiatrist? Can you see a family doctor, where your charge is subsidised by the government- I'm in Australia- this is what happens here.
Its going to cost me $85 that I don't have. He is the best pdoc I've been to though so I feel it would be rude to just cut the relationship out without a final visit. But then he may charge me some special "exit session" charge or something like that. My next appointment is in 10 days. I know if I call him, he is going to insist on one final visit to give me more meds for tapering. Another $130 down the drain. What do you guys think I should do?
>
Just be honest- say I am dead broke, I have no cash. And ask him how to go off the Parnate over the phone. You have every right to say this- after all it's the truth. Don't worry about hurting his feelings- I am sure the guy isn't starving! But do you want to find an alternative med for your SP?
> Thank you.
>Good luck,
Ace.
