In reply to Lexapro and sleeping, posted by Dr. Jill on November 22, 2003, at 7:55:23
> For those of you on Lexapro who have difficulty sleeping, my doctor prescribed Trazadone and it worked! I am on 5mg, which I take in the morning and today is day 20. Since starting Lexapro, I have been taking Ambien without success (can fall asleep, but cannot stay asleep). However, despite the fact that I slept like a rock last night, I feel very groggy this morning. As with everything in life, there are postive and negative aspects. Jill
I too experienced some trouble sleeping when starting Lex. I have been an insomniac most of my adult life, never slept through to nite, some times would lie awake or doze fitfully for nite after nite. I was frequently ENRAGED that my husband's head would hit the pillow and he was asleep, and that alone would keep me awake.
Started Lex in Feb., currently @20mg. And best of all....insomnia is GONE!!! Now I fall asleep within half an hour, sleep soundly THROUGH the nite, and do not wake untill alarm goes off. Now my husband complains about how heavily I sleep, instead of the other way around! I HAVE to conclude it is the Lexapro, as I have done nothing else different, have not changed habits, diet, or anything else.
I can only hope this side effect does not go away, and that others may experience it as well.~~~8|8
