I hope I don't scare you to death with this answer---that is not my intention. But oedema (edema to us Americans), especially around the neck, can be a sign of congestive heart failure, in which your heart cannot pump blood fast enough to prevent fluid buildup in your body. It is very important you keep your appointment with your GP. Hopefully, it is something else entirely, but make sure you get it checked out.
