I even took Imodium and THAT didn't even do anything. I deparately need a med to help slow my weight loss - and if the Metformin will ALWAYS cause these painful cramps (I felt like I was giving birth) then what else is there for someone on an MAOI??

Hi Jerry,

I am on my 2nd week of Metformin and the intestinal problems have subsided. I still have to poop a few times a day and I have some minor cramping but at least I don't have the runs anymore. From everything I have read, the side effects you are having should go away after two weeks. If not, consult your doctor. He may have you back down on your dose and gradually increase. Are you taking the standard 500 mg per day?? Also, make sure to take it with food to lessen the tummy discomfort.

Nicole
