> hi everyone. i am new here. i have had social anxiety for the last 7 years. i have tried zoloft, paxil, effexor, lexapro, neurontin, xanax, klonopin, inderal...and none have worked. i have heard great success stories from people on nardil, but whenever i suggest this to a doctor he refuses to prescribe it to me because it's "dangerous." does anyone know how i can find a doctor that prescribes maoi's? i don't see the use in trying SSRI's over and over if they keep failing.
I too am new here. I have been struggling with atypical depression for years. Over the past decade I have been on and off of different SSRI's and Wellbutrin, but nothing was really helpful. My psychologist was the one who finally diagnosed me with atypical depression due to the following: high sensitivity to rejection, leaden paralysis type feeling (I just couldn't get out of bed), and excessive sleep (versus insomnia, which is more likely in major depression). This psychologist told me that MAOI's were a very effective treatment for this type of dep. I had similar worries about the restrictions and possible consequences of this drug. I convinced my primary care doc (helps to be a clinical psych. graduate student; he eventually realized I know what I am talking about) that I wanted to try this. While waiting for the Celexa to wash out for two weeks I "practiced" the diet to see if I could really do it. It's really not that difficult. The nardil feels like a miracle drug for me, as I am both a new person and back to my old self. It's definitely worth it to me, and I am lucky in that my primary care doc is a bit of a pushover once you get past his arrogance. Good luck to you.
