Strattera/Reboxetine Male Sexual/Urinary Dysfunc.

Posted by LightShifter on December 11, 2003, at 23:07:39

I recently started 20 mg. Strattera (atomoxetine)once a day to deal with anxiety/depression and ADD. I am on no other drugs and immediately expereinced the following urinary/sexual side-effects though the drug seemed to work considerably well on my anxiety, positive bias, and focus.

1) Urinary retention also known as BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyprplasia) or enlargement of the prostate. This made it very difficult to urinate by cutting of the flow or urine.

2) The appearance or whitish substance in my urine that looked like semen.

3) Erectile dysfunction making it difficult to get and keep an erection.

Searching online I found a study that showed tamsulosin (Flowmax (r)) was effective in resolving the urinary hesitancy associated with the BPH with reboxetine (a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor like strattera in use in Europe), tried it and it worked to resolve this issue.

The erectile dysfunction is better but still somewhat of a problem. Has anyone had similiar problems and found solutions? I was wondering how effective Viagra or other substances might be in resolving both the urinary AND sexual dysfunction issues. Ideally it would be great if I could find one pill that would resolve BOTH issues so I could save money due to no insurance.

I would appreciate posts from anyone who had similiar problems and who may be trying ways of resolving the conditions.

I see Strattera as very helpful and would like to continue it because there is no crash or sleep deprivation like there is from stimulants like Ritalin/Amphetamines and it works great on reducing the anxiety I've developed over the years. It also seems to work great for me in developing a more positive bias and focus for concentration. I would suspect Reboxetine in Europe would be as effective as both work pretty exclusively on inhibiting the reuptake or norepinephrine alone.
