Klonopin certainly boosted my motivation, by reducing anxiety and excessive worry and allowing me to get on with my life. My "baseline" state is enthusiastic/optimistic, except when anxiety, panic, and the resulting depression get in the way. This is unpredictable without medication and can totally derail me.
Klonopin (clonazepam) has absolutely no euphoric effect for me, and I don't even notice it (although it made me a bit tired for the first week or two).
I think it comes down to the primary cause of the problem: "pure" melancholic depression (for which Klonopin may not be so great) versus depression that results from anxiety (my situation). These hardly are psychiatric categories, and I'm sure the truth is much more complex, but I do think that when it comes to depression and anxiety this basic distinction is meaningful.
