i am having cognitive problems w/ topamax, i feel it has sort of blunted my affect a little, which is not the end of the b/c i have always been very expressive so i am not unexpressive yet. but it is really scaring me b/c i notice a drastic difference- i can't come up with witty comments as quickly, i think way to long about trivial things, i can't remember stupid words, etc and i do think that it lingers after you stop the drug, it probably gets better but not completely. i can't figure out why so many ppl are on the drug after reading the posts?? it sounds like it is an awful drug. one thing i did notice the 1st time i was on it (it is my 2nd time) is that it took me a really long time to realize that it was effecting my thinking, this time i am more conscious of it.
> Has anyone out there had permanent cognitive problems brought on by Topamax? I took it for a month at the start of 2002. Topamax was added to the Depakote I had been taking. These medications were prescribed for migraine control. I was taken off after a month, due to the severity of the cognitive side effects. The cognitive impairment has never gone away. Is there anyone out there that has heard of anyone else having lasting cognitive impairment (even after the drug has been discontinued)?
