In reply to Topamax or Neurontin for OCD????????, posted by ace on December 28, 2003, at 19:12:56

As far as I know OCD has been successfully treated with SSRI's and acts on the serotonergic axis. Topamax and Neurontin are Anti-Epileptic Drugs (AED's) which generally have been thought to operate at GABA/Glutamic or excitory neurotransmitter level (although both of the above meds have been proven to operate at other levels) I'm not sure if they would affect OCD, but they might as the theory is that AED'S slow down the rate of firing of excitory neurotransmitters. Unless you have been specifically told by physician that these AED's would help OCD, query it. Nardil does have serotonergic properties so maybe it's not a bad idea to use it for OCD.
Go to any of the better search engines and you'll find tons of stuff under OCD, Neurontin, Topamax. You might even want to go to Medscape to read up on some articles.
Good luck.
