In reply to T3 for weight/metab. boost? Input please :-), posted by jay on January 16, 2004, at 3:25:49
> Hey folks...I am taking Prozac and T4 now as my doc thought that might help 'up' my metabolism a bit. (My Thyroid tests are borderline, but nothing alarming.) I have read that T3 works best in these cases, as I don't find T4 (even at various does over a few months) helps with sluggish metabolism. Would T3 make much of a difference? Any input appreciated...
Hi Jay,
I suffer from hypothyroidism myself. It is a real plague. Huh? My endo even said that those SSRIs tend to lower the effectiveness of T4 supplements like Synthroid, Unithroid, etc.
Being said, try to have a TSH between 1 and 2.
You will feel a lot better. Adding T3 to your regimen could be a real benefit. I wish you can.Unfortunately for me, i think that recently Health Canada has pulled off the market the drug Cytomel, a T3 supplement.
However you can speed up the T4 to T3 conversion ( and your metabolism) by adding 200 to 300 mg of Selenium and a small dose of L-Tyrosine, see 500 mg a day. It works great for me.
As usual, i hope this helps.
