Zyprexa for fibromyalgia?

Posted by Kotari on January 16, 2004, at 12:27:11

My doctor just prescribed zyprexa (generic name is olanzapine) for fibromyalgia symptoms. This is an antipsychotic drug. I have not heard of this treatment before and I keep up on the literature.

Is there anyone out there taking zyprexa for pain relief? What has been your experience?

I have been on Effexor (75 mg) but am wanting to get off of it. I have occasional IBS and the meds don't absorb, triggering debilitating withdrawal symptoms. Other docs have told me to bump up my dose to get the NSRI effects. I would like an alternative, but not sure zyprexa is it.
