Wellbutrin SR (Slow Release) vs. Wellbutrin regula

Does anyone have any anecdotal evidence or otherwise that the Slow Release version is different/better than the regular? My Dr says it is mostly marketing, and that as long as the dose is the same there really isn't any difference. There is an even newer version, but it isn’t on my HMO's plan yet.
