Hi socialdeviantjeff:
The reason why I was NOT approved was because they(psychiatrists working for the State) analyzed my case being 'treatable' by taking appropriate med. combo. At the time I applied SSDI was just two meds. Lithium and Depakote combo. I was on for my condition, Bipolar II with rapid cycler. As a matter of fact, that was quite true, as the current pdoc. changed my old med. combo. and put me on more appropriate med. combo. They(state psychiatrists) are so competent that every detailed informations were carefully studied.
Then, if you want to get it approved, ... you may need to try twice, even three times. In case of NOT-approved, they may offer med. assistance(free medication program run by the State) whether you get it through or not, because this seems to be normal procedure. At least, they do NOT throw things away, ... in view of humanitarian view or compensation for your effort(just my guess).Attorney must be costly, then you need to do some homework FIRST before access attorney. Also, if you could find any mental advocate/support group, there might be some helpful hints in order to succeed in your application form. More detailed writing, better chance. Also, you need to keep in mind that your pdoc. is a primary physician to write a form/letter to the State, thus try to consult with your pdoc. before any paper-work done.
H.G.
