In reply to ANYONE GOING OFF EFFEXOR? TERRIBLE EFFECTS, posted by trevor26 on March 5, 2004, at 17:48:21
> WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE ELSE IS GOING OFF EFFEXOR AND IF SO WHAT SIDE EFFECTS ARE YOU HAVING. I HAVE BEEN TAKING 75MG EFFEXOR XR NOW FOR ABOUT 4 YEARS AND AM WANTING TO STOP TAKING IT DUE TO THE SIDE EFFECTS OF MISSING A DOSE.ALSO I DONT WANT TO HAVE TO TAKE IT THE REST OF MY LIFE. I AM HAVING SEVERE SIDE EFFECTS WHILE NOT TAKING IT .I HAVE BEEN TAKING 37.5MG FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS THEN I HAVE STOPPED TAKING IT ALTOGETHER THE LAST 2 DAYS. THESE EFFECTS ARE SO SEVERE I HAVE MISSED THE LAST TWO DAYS OF WORK AND CAN HARDLY FUNCTION. HOW CAN THE FDA APPROVE THESE TYPES OF MEDICINES WHEN THEY CAN MAKE YOUY SICK. I WAS NOT TOLD OF THESE EFFECTS BY MY DOCTOR WHEN HE PRESCRIBED THIS TO ME . HIS WORDS TO ME ABOUT THE EFFECTS IM HAVING WERE "DONT STOP TAKING IT". I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST THESE DOCTORS AND WYETH FOR THIS. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW LONG I'LL HAVE THESE SYMPTOMS? I AM ABOUT TO GIVE UP AND JUST START TAKING IT AGAIN AS BAD AS I DONT WANT TO.

>Ask your doctor for a few Prozac tablets & take one a day for a couple of days until the sypmtoms subside. Prozac takes 7-14 days to leave your body & the effect is a very slow & gentle taper. Effexor takes less than 24 hours & this is the reason for the servere symptoms of withdrawl. Prozac substitution for a couple of days will help greatly.
