I experienced this with cocaine and Ritalin, but not amphetamines oddly. Basically you wind up getting effects (the nasty ones) like agitation and paranoia and anxiety off smaller and smaller doses. The clean smooth mood lifting effects disapear but somehow smaller doses now produce a dysphoric stimulant effect. At least thats what I believe it to be.
