Bipolar is a mood disorder that has two sides to it. Mania/hypomania and depression. The symptoms of these can vary a great deal with each person. A person with bp1 has very serious swings and may end up in the hospital for their manias and depressions. A pesons with bp2 has what is called hypomania which is not as severe as mania and does not go to the hospital for their hypomania but may go for their depressions. bp3 is less severe yet but still debiltating. The hardest term to understand is the mania /hypomania. They have mostly the same symptoms but one is worse than the other and mania can include pyschosis and include hospitilazitation. Manina /hyponaina can include poor judgement, risk taking, lack of sleep, extreme irritibility, euphoria, pressured speech, speed up, grandiose ideas (these are a few I can think of off the top of my head).
People with Bipolar generally swing back and forth between the two. Generally bp2 experiences more depression. Some People can have an episode and go for years without another one and others always cycle.
Hope this helps.
