Re: Extended Release Meds

Hi, I take three different meds...all extended release (Wellbutrin, Effexor and Tegretol.) Here are a couple reasons for timed release...greater patient compliance (easier to take one pill in the morning rather than several throughout the day) and the need for a sustained amount of drug to be in your system. My (hypo)manic cycles tend to begin during the same time of day so my doc thought we should go for an extended release version of the Tegretol. As far as my two ADs I haven't noticed any difference...although once in a hospital they gave me 375mg of Effexor (my dose at the time...) in regular form--not XR. I was so sick even my eyelashes were nauseous... :P

I feel that there is a difference...it just might not affect everyone. Stick with the drug that you're most comfortable with as that one will have a greater success rate.
