I guess the severity of your symptoms are dose dependent, so I can not really tell you how bad the effects are on cognition since I have always been on it with Wellbutrin.
It is not devestating by any means on cognition.
Overall, I think it is mild compared to my friends' experiences with other anticonvulsants. I don't know if I could have handled 1200mg on its own. I am currently on 600mg only because my Provigil made it stronger than it normally would be. I am not sure if this is normal, but my side effects returned as if I just started trileptal all over again.
From what I understand the other antimanics produce extreme sedation, weight gain, and fuzzy head among other things.
Since I have been on 600mg I have not experienced the side effects that I felt after I started the provigil. The side effects were not provigil-type side effects for sure because they came after I took my trileptal without taking the provigil at the same time. Drunken feeling is not a provigil side effect.
So, in short, yes, trileptal can and does cause those symptoms.
I think the only anticonvulsant that is stimulating is Keppra.
