Santa Ana winds are different. There are a number of these winds, called foehn in diff parts of the world - Chinook coming off the Rockies, Sirroco around the Mediterranean...

They generate positive ions.Other winds can generate negative ions & they're the ones that feel so great. Sea breezes are an example of negatively charged winds.
Negative ion generators have improved but they still make positive ions too & a certain amount of ozone. Ozone has that sharp, acrid smell one associates with electric appliances. They have all the scientific logic of wearing magnets in your shoes. In other words, bunk.
Ions are short lived & dissipate rapidly & for an effect, a lot would need to be generated. There's no way a small machine can generate enough, without harmful ozone, to fill a room & effct a person for the good. Save your money & take frequent trips to waterfalls or the beach.
