In reply to Can you take an Ace-Inhibitor with Effexor?, posted by Dauphine on April 24, 2004, at 13:55:40
> I have been on Effexor XR 75 mg/day for the last 6 weeks. I am finally starting to feel much better!! I have just gotten to the spot where I am ready to really start evaluating things in my life, and yesterday I was very disappointed to find out that my blood pressure is a bit too high. I have had blood pressure problems before for no reason (24 and healthy), and have also been on both beta blockers and ace inhibitors before which have worked to bring it down to acceptable levels. I knew that Effexor could increase my blood pressure and was afraid of this happening. I have an appointment with my doctor next week, and I feel that they will want me to discontinue Effexor and put me on something else. I DO NOT want to do this -- I know about the withdrawal symptoms and only want to experience them once many more months in the future. And plus I am finally starting to feel better and don't want to mess with a good thing. Unfortunately 145/100 is too high to sustain everyday for however I'm on this drug. So my question, after all of that, is does anybody know if it is fine to take an ace inhibitor to lower blood pressure and Effexor at 75 mg/day at the same time? What would be the reasons not to?

>Hi Dauphine,
I take 10mg Tritace(Ramipril) with Effexor. I started it before Effexor & it lowered my BP down by 20/10.
My BP is as follows:
No Drugs: 150/100
Tritace: 130/90
Tritace+Effexor 75mg: 130/90
Tritace+Effexor 150mg: 120/80
Tritace+Effexor 225mg+Remeron 30mg: 120/80
Tritace+Effexor 300mg+Remeron 30mg: 130/90I also take some Voltaren & the occasional Valium. I know of no reason that you can't take an ACE inhibitor with Effexor. I do know that I can't have a duiretic with an ACE inhibitor + NSAIDS(Voltaren) as it makes your kidneys fall out.
Cheers,
Panda.
