Okay, i've seen a number of charts, pharmacological profiles, and the like of Nardil or having Nardil in them over the past few years. And i think every single one i first came upon showed/stated that Nardil was devoid of any anticholinergic properties/effects. And i told my (now former) pdoc about a year or so ago that i would like to try an MAOI and that i did not want to try imipramine (which he wanted to prescribe to me), a primary reason for which being that i was sensitive to anticholinergic side effects, i hate them, and i thought they would be fairly severe on imipramine. He replied with something like "well MAOIs have anticholinergic side effects too." i thought he was an idiot at the time for saying that (well, he was, but he may have been right about that statement). Needless to say, he didn't prescribe me any MAOI (and i didn't get on imipramine).
A few months after that i saw a drug comparison chart that showed that Nardil (and Parnate) DID have moderate anticholinergic side effects. Then i finally got on Parnate for a short time and have been on Nardil for 8 months, and i definitely notice what appear to be the typical anticholinergic side effects.
HOWever, i read somewhere recently about some of the side effects that adrenergic stimulation (particularly alpha-ad. agonism i think [?]) can cause, and many/all of them were similar to anticholinergic side effects. So my question is, well it's 2-part:
1) DO MAOIs (esp. Nardil) have anticholinergic properties?
2) Are there adrenergic effects that can be subjectively similar or identical to anticholinergic effects?
Much thanks to anyone who can answer this.
