> I was wondering out of the SSRI's which one is the most potent. I take Lexapro and have tried Effexor, tricyclics, and all the other SSRI's. But my meds were switched so much that I didn't stay on any one SSRI very long. Although I have been on the Lexapro for over a year now. But I was still wondering which SSRI has the most powerful antidepressant effect. Or do they all have about the same effectiveness. Thanks in advance for any responses.
hi there, i can only ascertain that it depends on the individual's body chemistry and other medications that might make an AD more activating. as for which ones, looking at the posts around this board make my head spin: who's to say? i am inclined to say effexor BUT i have not taken the med and only mention it because there in norepinephrine reuptake inhibition as well at SRI. i did take paxil, and found it to put me in a rather hypomanic state. i did take parnate, with the same result. however, i am diagnosed bipolar (and tend to lean towards the manic side) so it was/is no surprise that those ADs - or any other - would seem very activating to me. i defer to sad panda, scott, or king vultan for their extensive knowledge of the ADs, and apologize for not being more of a help.....all the best, chemist
