> My pdoc gave me Halcion to replace it. So far it is helping me sleep. After about 3 days off the Restoril (made the switch) I started feeling really hostile/agitated and had a few panic attacks and depression. Seems to definately coincide with stopping the Restoril. Is this common? I have never had to quit a long term benzo. Last night I got desperate and took the Restoril at bedtime hoping today I would feel a little back to my old self, which I do. I can't sleep at all on the Restoril anymore without the Remeron I used to take with it. I think my body must have become immune to it. How long is normal to take for getting off it completely? Of course my pdoc is one that believes once the med is out of your system you will be fine.
hello ther, chemist here...it sounds to me that you are going through withdrawl from the restoril, and that the suppression of daytime anxiety/manic/agitation was being covered by the restoril. halcion is out of your system in no time at all, but restoril takes a while longer. i am uncertain why reintroduction of restoril a few days later would not work, as it is a pretty heavy-duty benzo. my best suggestion would be to slowly taper the restoril while adding halcion until you are balanced. however, do not overdo it! also, if the daytime panic/anxiety/etc. reemerges, then it is time to discuss with your doctor a remedy for your waking hours.....hope this helps, and all the best, chemist
