According to "Mosby's 2004 Drug Guide", "The usual effective dosage is 30 mg/day, usually given in divided doses. If there are no improvements after a reasonable period (up to 2 weeks), then the dosage may be increased in 10 mg/day increments at intervals of 1-3 weeks; the dosage range may be extended to a maximum of 60 mg/day from the usual 30 mg/day."I've read elsewhere that 40 mg/day is perhaps a more common effective dose than 30, but I agree with the dosage instructions above that recommend starting at 30 mg/day. I think they are well thought out, being prudent but not excessively cautious, and I can imagine if I were to try Parnate, my doctor and I would likely follow them to the letter.
